Chest Pain

What is mechanical chest pain?

Mechanical chest pains are often caused due to acute trauma or injuries, like rib fractures or contusions and muscular strains in the pectoral or intercostal muscles. It can also be due to old injuries, and not all pain concerning the chest has to do with cardiac problems. Even lifting weights can cause pain.

Common chest pain causes

Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a painful type of neuralgia that affects the trigeminal nerve. TN can occur in any sensory nerve (nerve) but is commonly found affecting the nerves of the face, head, and neck.

  • Sharp or dull pain in the chest
  • Burning sensation
  • Aching
  • A tight squeezing, or crushing sensation
  • Stabbing pain

  • Sudden feeling of pressure or tightness
  • Nausea, dizziness, rapid heart rate, or rapid breathing
  • Confusion or excessive sweating
  • Fever or chills
  • Coughing up yellow-green mucus
